How One Simple Survey Transformed a Client’s Business (Without More Content or More Work)
Ever feel like you’re doing everything right, but something just isn’t clicking?
That’s exactly where my client, Sarah, found herself.
Sarah had built an engaged audience. She had a great offer. She had put in the work.
But when it came time to launch, Sarah wasn’t seeing the response she expected. People were interested, but they weren’t taking the next step.
She started second-guessing everything.
Was her messaging off?
Did she need to change her pricing?
Was the offer even the right fit?
Instead of scrambling to “fix” things blindly, I suggested something simple:
"Why don’t we ask them?"
The Moment Everything Clicked (And How It Can for You Too)
We sent a short Post-Launch Survey to those interested but didn’t sign up.
The responses told us everything we needed to know.
Some people weren’t sure if the offer was the right fit for their level.
Others wanted to join but had lingering questions about what they’d actually get.
A handful needed a more flexible way to commit.
Sarah didn’t need a complete overhaul. She didn’t need to create more content or change her entire strategy.
She just needed to make a few small adjustments:
Clarify who the offer was for so people could immediately see if it was a fit.
Showcase real client experiences to highlight the results.
Address the top concerns upfront in her emails and sales page.
That was it.
No guessing. No extra work. Just using the feedback she already had.
And when she put those insights into action, everything shifted.
Four Simple Surveys Every Business Should Be Using
Sarah’s situation isn’t unique. Most business owners spend too much time assuming what their audience wants instead of just asking.
Here’s how you can change that.
1. Post-Email Opt-In Survey
Why it matters: Find out how people discover you and what content they need.
Where to place it: On the thank-you page after someone subscribes or in your welcome email.
What to ask:
How did you find me?
What made you subscribe today?
What’s your biggest challenge right now?
Your best content ideas? They’re hiding in your audience’s responses.
2. Post-Launch Survey
Why it matters: Learn why people didn’t buy so you can adjust your messaging.
Where to place it: Send to those who visited your sales page but didn’t purchase.
What to ask:
What made you hesitate about joining?
Was anything unclear?
What would have made this decision easier?
Instead of wondering why people aren’t converting, let them tell you.
3. Post-Purchase Survey
Why it matters: Learn what convinced someone to buy so you can attract more of the right people.
Where to place it: On the thank-you page after purchase or in a follow-up email.
What to ask:
What made you decide to invest?
How did you hear about this?
What’s your biggest goal in the next 30 days?
Your future customers are just like your current ones. Understand what worked, and do more of it.
4. Post-Service or Course Feedback Survey
Why it matters: Improve your offer and gather powerful testimonials.
Where to place it: Send after someone completes your service or course.
What to ask:
What was your biggest takeaway?
How has your experience helped you?
Is there anything we could improve?
Would you be open to sharing a testimonial?
Feedback helps you refine your offer and gives you stories to share that attract more clients.
What to Do Next
Sarah didn’t grow her business by working harder.
She just listened.
The insights were already there, she just needed to collect them and act on them.
So before you start tweaking your content, reworking your offer, or wondering what’s missing, do this instead:
Choose one survey from this list.
Send it out to your audience this week.
Pay attention to the patterns in their responses.
Your audience has the answers. You just have to ask.
